Elroy On Canvas

elroy-painting-yeve-na-conf-prague-filter

In September, Yeve Drovossekova approached us at our booth at the Slovenian Game Developers Conference and asked us if we would be interested in her making a painting of a random scene in Elroy And The Aliens. “Sure,” we said, like this happens to us every other day “let’s do this!” Two months later the oil on canvas painting was finished and turned out great! It was featured on the Game Developers Session conference in Prague in November. How cool is that!

Run Like Hell

There is a big difference between what you look like when having a morning run, chasing the bus or when you are running for your life.

Here is our take on what running from the devil looks like. 🙂

The Great Dictator Speech With Elroy

Here’s a little lip-sync and facial expressions demo.

Elroy reenacts Charlie Chaplin’s brilliant speech from the 1940 movie The Great Dictator.

Even though this clip is almost 75 years old, it is still one of the most inspiring speeches ever made, and it feels very appropriate for the modern day and age.

Kids should learn this speech in elementary school and act by it as adults.

The Desert Sunset – Elroy Soundtrack

We are all about analogue and hand-crafted stuff — as for the art, so for the music.

This one was composed and played with a home-made slide on an old acoustic guitar by our friend — a talented musician/producer and adventure game geek Martin.

We love how the resonating mysterious sound of steel strings subtly emphasizes the solitude and calmness of the Arizonesque desert in the game.

Elroy And The Aliens Teaser Trailer

Hello you lovely people!

It’s been quite a while since our last update. And we have been very busy!

The game is coming together really well.

We’re making good progress, tweaking, polishing, optimizing and testing everything.

We want you to have at least as much fun playing the game as we are having making it.

To get some taste for what you can expect, here is a video teaser just for you. 🙂

For maximum retina joy, click the gears icon and watch it in 1080p HD!

Alien Spaceship Colors

We’ve been told that aliens pimp their rides just as much as humans.

These babies are all covered in custom spaceproof paint.

Which one do you like best?

Top 5 Things Our Adventure Game Will Not Have

Having played our fair share of adventure, puzzle, RPG and other games, we have made a list of game features we do NOT want our game to have.

Here is the list:

Pixel Hunting

There will be no puzzles where tapping or clicking every pixel on the screen ad nauseam is the only way to get unstuck. Pixel hunting isn’t fun.

Tedious Dialogue Puzzles

We will not have dialogue trees with dozens of lines that don’t lead anywhere, let alone contribute to the game experience.

Hamsters Are Predators

What food would you give a hungry little hamster? Some veggies, right?

Sure. But it turns out hamsters are omnivores. This means that these fluffy little critters will eat basically anything you throw at their plate. Including meat. And their own poop if needed.

In the wild, they sometimes even gather in packs and hunt down insects. True predators, indeed. You might want to mind your fingers next time you are feeding your furry fella that carrot. Oh … and … just don’t feed it any canned food. It will give your hamster some nasty gas and crazy eyes. 0.o

Our Main Gamedev Rules

The Gaming Experience

Do we love Monkey Island? Hell yeah!

But do we like the Monkey Island mobile port game experience? Hell no!

In addition to the desktop, we are building Elroy And The Aliens also with touch devices in mind.

We want to bring the puzzle-adventure genre closer to both younger gamers and veteran adventure game fans who are looking for good games on mobile.

We have to make the puzzles and the whole gaming experience as one-finger-friendly as possible – no multi-action tools, no multiple-choice drop-down menus and no tiny objects to click on – while still remaining true to the adventure spirit.

Meet Peggie

Here’s the super short story: One random day, while relaxing on the couch, Elroy heard a loud bang, stepped outside and saw Peggie trying to repair her strange looking vehicle which she has crashed into the building that Elroy lives in. Then they talked for a while and she told him secret alien stuff. This is how it all started.

We are not sure, and I don’t think Elroy is either, but there must be something about Peggie that lifted Elroy’s behind from his chewed up sofa, made him step outside into broad daylight and embark upon the greatest world-saving adventure since Indiana Jones 3.

Meet Elroy

He doesn’t have muscle, he has wits. He doesn’t live in an apartment, he lives in his lab in the city. He is not a doctor, he is a super genius! He doesn’t have a girlfriend, he has imagination. And fiery red hair (and a soul).

Meet Elroy, our protagonist. Always looking for a puddle to step in while reprogramming the user interface of a hi-tech robot and discussing the faith of mankind with some aliens.

Our Greatest Adventure So Far

A long time has passed since we adjusted the tape head on a Commodore 64 for the first time and dived into the magical pixel crafted world of endless imagination and creativity called video games.

We love playing adventure and puzzle games and laughing our butts off watching old Tom & Jerry cartoons.

Our goal has always been straight and simple — make enough money doing projects to make our own, self-produced adventure game.

We are a group of four. Finally we are here. Producing our own game and everything around it. Our band is Motiviti and this blog is here to share our story and the story of our debut game Elroy And The Aliens.

Elroy And The Aliens is a puzzle adventure game packed with action, humor and aliens. Hand-drawn and animated in 2D.

Coming soon to iOS, Android, PC, Mac & PS Vita.
