Hand Drawn 2D Animation Process For Elroy

Howdy, friends!

Here is a 2-min timelapse video of the hand-drawn 2D animation process behind one of the many scenes in Elroy.

As we’re always saying, nothing beats “pen and paper” if you want to get that juicy cartoony vibe into a game.

So this is what our old-school animation process with modern tools looks like:

#1 Drawing Rough Keyframes:
Neck-breaking key poses for our hero’s animation.

#2 Drawing Rough Inbetweens:
Without them it’d be 1990 all over again. Timing and smoothness add to the fun!

#3 Drawing Clean Lines:
Cleaning up the illustrations making it all nice and tidy.

#4 Adding Color:
We like it colorful and shiny, ow yea!

#5 Shadowing:
Custom shadows make Elroy come to life even more.

The most importantestest part of the whole thing –> #6 Love:
We always interlace the whole animation process with our pure and immaculate love for all the cartoons we have loved so much ever since we were pooping in a potty in front of the TV on a Saturday morning.

Thanks so much for all support, people! Feedback much appreciated.
